There are five potential ways to receive notifications from the Discussion Forums module.

1. Following a Forum
2. Following a Discussion
3. When someone replies to your post
4. When you are tagged in a post
5. If a post requires moderation (Forum moderators only)

If you are a system Admin, you can edit the associated email templates by going to System Settings, click on the Discussion Forums module settings, then opening up the Email Templates drop down.

  1. Following a Forum.
You can follow a Forum by clicking the star button on the Forum thumbnail, or within the Forum on the right hand side (it will change from an outline to solid). Once you have followed a Forum, you will then be notified of each new Discussion posted within that Forum. You will not be notified of every individual post, only new Discussion threads.

  2. Following a Discussion.
You can follow an individual Discussion by clicking the star button on the list of Discussions, or within the Discussion on the right hand side (it will change from an outline to solid). Once you have followed a Discussion, you will then be notified of every new post within that Discussion.

If you create a new Discussion, you will automatically be following. You can unfollow by clicking the star button (it will change from solid to an outline).

  3. When someone replies to your post.
When another user replies directly to a post you have made, you will receive a notification. If the general "post reply" button is used at the top of the discussion, you will not be notified, unless you are following the discussion.

  4. When you are tagged in a post.
If another user tags your name (using the @ sign), you will receive a notification.

  5. If you are a moderator and a post gets flagged.
When a post is flagged for moderation, any moderators who have notifications enabled will receive one.
