YouTube can be a great resource to host all your videos in! By using their access controls you can limit who can find and see the videos, and allow them to be embedded into your policies, news articles, training programs, forums and more.

Note: YouTube "Shorts" are not supported via the embed function at this time.

  1. Upload your video to YouTube as Unlisted (you can select public if you don't mind the general public seeing the video; however Private videos do not work in Op Central)

  2. Ensure the "Allow Embedding" box is ticked (no others need to be - see reference image below). Depending on your account, your distribution settings may be under a different tab.

  3. Open the uploaded video and copy the full URL from the address bar, the URL should say https://www.youtube.com/xxxx (not the embed code, which looks like youtu.be/xxxx).
It may have the channel name in the URL, that's okay to include.

  4. Paste the link you've copied into the Reference URL field in Op Central. The video will then appear with a playable thumbnail preview below.

Troubleshooting

  • If you do not see the playable preview, then you have used an incorrect link. You may see an error when this happens.
  • If you are using a link that looks like this: https://youtu.be/xxxx it is an incorrect link. You must use the full URL from the address bar, not the short code/embed link.
  • If the video does not play on certain devices, check that it has not been uploaded as a "Shorts". Op Central does not support the embedding of "Shorts" reels at this time.
